Montrealproudly presents...Come hear what you've been missing! The Jazz festival each summer in Montreal attracts some of the finest musicians from around the world. Many concerts are free to the public and all you really need is time and a pair of thirsty ears. During the years big named artist like Tony Bennett, Sting, and the like have graced the Montreal stages. With over five stages of musical active going on and crowds in excess of 200,000 on some nights there is always room as well as variety of music for everyone to enjoy. We checked out some Cajun music this year. It was quite fantastic. Show times and scheduling are such that you have time to pick your music and pick your spot to stand or sit. There was even Cajun food being served to complement the whole experience. We thought, "Why not indulge all our senses?" The gigantic free urban get-together broadened global awareness of the Festival through its being telecast, for the first time, on the TV5 network around the world. The 2000 edition included performances by Brad Mehldau, James Carter, Antonio Hart, Lew Soloff, Sonny Greenwich and Ricky Ford, among others, in the lobby of the Hôtel Wyndham Montréal. There were also surprise appearances like that of Kenny Barron at the Mino Cinelu concert, Brad Mehldau at Ray Browns, Daniel Mille at Márcio Faraco’s, and Oliver Jones in the company of Charlie Biddle Pickup the pamphlet or checkout the official web site, and choose your music and your nights. The music you will hear covers a wide spectrum of type, not just Jazz. So it's more than likely that on any given night, you can always find just what you are looking to hear. So why not visit the official Montreal Jazz Web Site and check out who's performing and just when. Then leave your worries behind, hop on an airplane, train, car or whatever, and get your ears up here, where the music's' cool and the food is hot! A great celebration of music, which among other reactions produced this one from Tony Bennett, in the letter accompanying the artwork he produced for the Festival: “The Montreal Jazz Festival is always one of my most favorite places to perform”; and from Charlie Haden, at the opening concert at Place des Arts, who said, “This is my favorite festival in the world.”Make it a date, for next year, for a musical feast that promises to be even more exhilarating – from June 27, to July 8, 2001!
